My counselling sessions are largely client-centered; this form of therapy is referred to as Rogerian therapy and the emphasis is placed on the counsellor and client coming together on equal terms. Client-centered counsellors aim to understand how a client is feeling and where a client is at in their own life, rather than imposing their own ideas on the client. My aim is to understand what you are going through, from your point of view, and to be available for you, so that you know you are being heard and understood.
Where suitable my sessions may also include narrative therapy, solution-focused counselling, cognitive behaviour therapy, life coaching and stress management.
I have many years of experience working with clients with diverse needs. Some issues I can help with include:
Anxiety
Depression
Work related stress
Grief
Trauma
Divorce
Step-families (one person at a time)
Infertility (including miscarriage grief)
Pet loss grief
Illness and disability
Autism/Aspergers
Providing a confidential place in which to offload everyday problems
Life Coaching
Stress Management
I provide counselling for a wide range of concerns and I work with individuals from many different walks of life. My main concern is that I am able to provide some comfort and reassurance to you through the difficult times you are facing.
My specialty is working with clients who are suffering from depression or anxiety, those who might consider themselves to be 'highly-sensitive' individuals and those suffering from 'compassion fatigue' and emotional burnout/exhaustion.
I am also a highly experienced life coach able to provide life coaching within your counselling sessions.
My sessions are always gentle and client-led, however, I maintain a carefully considered framework within which to effectively explore any issues you are facing. In this way I can ensure that you move closer to an effective resolution of your concerns.
Sessions are conducted at your selected appointment time and I will call you at this time. Appointments are currently only available after hours. Please understand that I have clients I work with at regular appointment times and as such a specific time may not be immediately available, however I am usually able to offer an appointment within 2-3 days of your initial enquiry. I currently offer appointments 5 nights per week from Sunday to Thursday.
Wikipedia has an excellent write up on telephone counselling, here is an excerpt:
"A recent study found that more than half of clients (58%) who had experienced both in-person and phone counseling preferred phone counseling.[2] A 2002 study found that phone counseling clients rate their counseling relationship similarly to in-person clients.[3] Phone counseling has been established as an effective treatment for diagnoses ranging from depression[4] to agoraphobia... Also research shows telephone counseling to have better results among patients with depression."
If you wish to book a session please fill out the contact form below and I will be in touch to discuss your concerns.
Please note that I do not provide counselling for substance abuse, self-harming or suicidal ideation. Please see your GP for a referral to a specialist or call Lifeline: 13 11 14
